Ways we help people living with dementia

We are the UK’s leading experts in dementia and cognitive health, dedicated to transforming the way dementia is understood and treated.

Our mission is to empower individuals, families, and professionals to support cognitive wellbeing and promote independence in later life – enabling people to live well within their communities.

Our treatment and training services are available in person at our Hubs across Devon, or via online support.

Group Therapy & Courses

Our Active Minds Courses and Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) are designed to keep your brain healthy, engaged, and resilient.

Grounded in the latest research, these evidence-based programmes use targeted brain exercises to support cognitive function and mental wellbeing.  Our courses and therapy sessions take place across Devon or via our digital service.

FAQs

To find out more or get started all you need to do is either complete the ‘Get started’ process on our website, email us or pick up the phone. A member of staff will then chat with you and organise a time to visit or offer needed information.

All our prices depend on the service, the length of time enjoying the space but we do offer free trials and many free support services. Please enquire.

YES. We work closely with both the NHS and social care and will help families to get CHC funding, social funding or the attendance allowance.

YES. We have minibuses that go out and collect individuals from around South Devon. Even if we don’t have space we will ensure transport is not a reason you can’t attend.

We are the experts! All we do is think about, work with, train and teach dementia. Our mission is to help families maintain someone’s mental health and independence and we do this in a treatment focused, person centred and (crucially) measured way that we can prove keeps an individual active, healthy and away from expensive complex care for longer.

The organisation is led by a clinical nurse specialist with decades of experience in this field and we connect with NHS health professionals. However, the hub team are experts in dementia, many with years of training and experience, but they are not registered health professionals.

YES. We recognise how scary it can be to start something new and so we are very happy for the loved one to attend for free for as long as she/he feels is appropriate. However, ultimately we are here to give informal carers some respite and to work with the individual living with dementia.

There are many reasons why attending a space like The Ness is crucial. To offer families respite, to continue to stimulate/exercise the brain, to engage in social experiences, to have access to experts for learning and training. Although the immediate memory might be lost the positive emotional memory lasts.

We understand! Individual’s with this illness do have last minute health issues or
change of mind and we try and be flexible to support families. We do have a cancellation policy but this is case by case recognising the individuality of
each person.

YES! We have built almost a decade of data to prove this. If we keep our brains active we can keep them strong!
