Specialist Dementia support at home

Dementia can be a very isolating illness and individuals are often nervous about leaving their home, however, the research shows how important it is to continue social engagement and external stimulation to slow disease progression.

Our Outreach service takes all that we have learned at The Ness Dementia Centre and brings it to the home. Working with the family and individual to engage and stimulate the individual and allow the family carer or informal carer much-needed respite.

We ensure we are always person-centric and will build a therapeutic activity plan with the individual and the family to fit their abilities and interests, however, this may include:

    • reminiscence therapy
    • music therapy
    • categorizing and sorting (which builds self-esteem)
    • orientation and validation therapy
    • gardening
    • cognitive stimulation (puzzles, quizzes, crossword, mental exercises).

Everything is designed to build confidence and encourage social interaction. If the individual would like to, we will also go out for day trips, visit the local town and enjoy a coffee across the local area.

    Outreach dementia care costs

Dementia help at home starts at as little as £20 an hour. We are happy to support the individual outside working hours and at the weekends but the cost does slightly increase, please enquire for further details.

Why is dementia help at home beneficial?

Our Outreach teams offer cognitive stimulation to the individual living with dementia which has been shown to improve their physical and mental health maintaining them in their home for longer.

This important social connection improves physical and emotional health and allows the informal carer some respite and time to catch up on rest or chores.

The earlier you build a trusting relationship with individuals outside the immediate family, the more successful external support will be later in the disease progression.

Our aim is to build an individuals self-esteem and encourage independence in someone living with the disease. The use of non-pharmacological intervention like music therapy, art therapy, sensory therapy has been found to reduce symptoms associated with the disease like sun down syndrome & anxiety.

    And lastly, it improves sleep!
